Sinopec opens lubricant plant in Singapore

2013-07-15

Sinopec, China's largest integrated energy and chemical group, celebrated the opening of its first lubricant plant overseas on July 11, almost two years since construction first began on the 242,811 sqm site in Tuas in the south western tip of Singapore.

General Manager for Sinopec Lubricant (Singapore) Pte Ltd Pei Wenjun officially inaugurated the Singapore plant. Other guests at the ceremony included officials from the Singapore government, the Chinese Embassy in Singapore and Sinopec.

The opening of the Singapore plant marks a major milestone for Sinopec and is a key to its global expansion, starting with Asia. Besides functioning as its Asia Pacific regional hub, the Singapore plant will also be an important production, service and logistics centre, enabling Sinopec to better serve the needs of its customers in South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

The plant has an initial production capacity of 100,000 tonnes  per year for   lubricant and will produce high-end products to meet the increasing regional demand for high-grade lubricant and grease.  The Singapore lubricant plant uses one of the world's most sophisticated lubricant production equipment and processing technology, 90 percent of which are proprietary of Sinopec. The company has in recent years embarked on an aggressive expansion plan, focusing its strategy on developing its resources, internationalization, differentiation, low-carbon and going green.

Sinopec has identified a three-prong approach to its globalization plan. The first is to focus efforts in developing the Asia Pacific market, followed by the setting up of more lubricant plants overseas. Lastly, Sinopec plans to progressively establish a strong global sales network.

Sinopec Lubricant General Manager Song Yun Chang  said:"As China's leading lubricant brand, Sinopec Lubricant has set its sights beyond China. The completion and operation of the Singapore facility will allow Sinopec to build its international experience and credibility. To meet the ever increasing global demand for Chinese lubricant products, Sinopec will look towards investing and building more factories, undertake mergers and acquisitions and sub-contracting to establish its supply chain and service network."

"Our ultimate goal is for Sinopec to establish an integrated business model for investment, production sales and management of our lubricant business, while striving to establish ourselves in the global lubricant sector." he said.
